Simon House

Faithorn Farrell Timms was appointed by Dominion Housing Group, in February 2005, to undertake a feasibility study for the conversion and refurbishment of an existing drug and alcohol rehabilitation hostel, in the centre of Oxford.

The feasibility study outlined the need and nature of the conversion and refurbishment of Simon House, which had not undergone any major improvement works in its 25 year history. Once agreed with our client, we were subsequently appointed in the capacity of Project Managers and Planning Supervisors for the delivery of the scheme.

The works involved a complete strip-out of the existing building, including all mechanical and electrical services installations.

The contract value for the scheme was £2.4m, funded partly by the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister and partly by Dominion Housing Group.

The works were undertaken in two phases. The first phase involved the strip-out, during which detailed designs for the fit-out were completed. The second phase involved the fit-out of the building to provide a modern interior; with enhanced training, catering and staff facilities; and much improved accommodation for the residents.

Simon House has now been operational since July 2006 and continues to be appreciated by staff and residents alike. The scheme was officially opened on the 25th April 2007 by Yvette Cooper, Minister for Housing within the Office of Deputy Prime Minister, with the opening making the headlines on the BBC's Six O'clock News.
