Stafford House

Stafford House is a seven storey office block constructed in the mid 1970s, in a reinforced concrete frame, with a pre-cast concrete mullion and exposed aggregate panel façade.

Faithorn Farrell Timms was appointed as Client Representative, to monitor the £5.5m scheme, by the Peerless Housing Group Limited.

The project comprised the construction of an additional lightweight storey at roof level, and the demolition of the existing office partitioning to create a mix of 50 one-bedroom and two-bedroom self contained flats.

A mansard roof was constructed and new internal partitioning installed to provide the required acoustic insulation, as well as 1-2 hours fire resistance.

The main staircase and lifts were substantially refurbished, to provide fire-fighting lobbies and lifts.

All services were re-configured and fully boosted pumped supplies were provided to the flats. As well as new internal drainage systems being installed, emergency lighting, fire alarms and smoke detection systems were also fitted. The scheme was completed in February 2006.

The renovation of this prominent building is seen as a major step forward, in the regeneration of this hitherto neglected area of Aldershot Town Centre.
