London Borough of Haringey

Faithorn Farrell Timms was appointed by the London Borough of Haringey in June 2004, under a three-year multi-disciplinary consultancy framework agreement to provide Architecture, Building Surveying, Structural Engineering, Mechanical and Electrical Engineering, and CDM Co-ordinator services.

The commission requires us to undertake various types of work across the Council's housing, education and social services stock, and currently includes the refurbishment of two children's homes with a contract value of £125,000 under a JCT IFC 98 Form of Contract.

The scheme involved the conversion of a canteen block on a refuse collection depot to form a CCTV control room for bus lane and community safety camera system. The conversion required us to provide a full multi-disciplinary design team, and included an extension and structural alterations. It was therefore necessary for Building Regulation approval and planning permission to be obtained. The refurbishment works included a replacement roof covering, new windows, kitchen and sanitary facilities.

The facility was also equipped with air-conditioning, mechanical ventilation, high-frequency dimmable CAT 2 lighting, suspended ceilings and raised computer floors. Improved security grilles were fitted to the windows and a swipe-card operated door entry system was installed.

A new electrical main was also required to provide for the large amount of electrical equipment contained within the facility.

The contract was completed within a 16 week programme and a budget of £320,000.
