Wallington Fire Station

Faithorn Farrell Timms was appointed by the London Fire Brigade Property Services Group to provide full Design, Contract Administration and CDM Co-ordinator services for the refurbishment of Wallington Fire Station.

The scheme entails the refurbishment of the existing 1930s fire station, including derelict adjoining flats that have been vacant for nearly 40 years. The station will remain operational throughout the contract.

The proposed works will comprise asbestos removal, replacement of existing windows, interior alterations, redecorations and refurbishment, conversion of outbuildings, landscaping works, renewal of all statutory supplies, and complete rewiring and replacement of heating distribution system.

The contract value for these works is in excess of £900,000.

The scheme has already attracted much positive attention from our client, who recognised the benefit of the innovative method of tendering, and has now proposed we change their procurement procedures for larger projects in line with our recommendations.

Our proposals for keeping the station operational, whilst undertaking such a major complicated refurbishment, have also received praise from the Fire Brigade's Union (FBU).
