20th Anniversary Wellbeing Virtual Cooking Event Goes Down a Storm
29 July 2021
As part of our 20th anniversary celebrations here at FFT, we devised a themed programme of activities to run over 12 months, starting from our birthday on 19th April. Twenty for Twenty comprised four themes, each with five initiatives, all centred on our Practice values of enhancing engagement, support and relationships.
The Health and Wellbeing theme, led by official theme ambassadors Kevan Allaway and Kelly Allen, supports initiatives focused on boosting mental and physical health across the Practice.
Based around promoting a healthier lifestyle, and encouraging people to taste test plant-based meal alternatives, Kevan and Kelly’s recent Ready Steady Cook virtual event proved a great success.
The interactive evening, held on 23 July, was hosted via the Cooking Academy. Food scientist, writer, broadcaster and chef patron Kumud Gandhi took the lead to guide us all through preparing the tempting menu, comprising aromatic sweet potato, chickpeas and spinach, plus a delicious vegetable pilaf with apricots.
With participants roping their families into the fun, it proved a very entertaining and educational evening all round, with everyone pushing their skills to the limits to keep up with Chef Gandhi and match her master creations.
Twenty for Twenty Ambassador Kevan Allaway said, “This was the first of what we hope will be a regular fixture in the practice’s health and wellbeing calendar of events. We wanted this to be fun but with a meaningful message to think about what we eat. We had great feedback from our chefs, everyone seemed to really enjoy the event and loved the food!”
Kelly Allen, the latest fan of Chef Gandhi’s fresh, healthy creations, added, “The food was delicious! And the evening was a great success. I hope it has inspired at least some of our participants to explore healthier or plant based meal alternatives by showing them how tasty and fun to prepare they can be. You never know, we may even have the next MasterChef champion amongst us!”
We shall be hosting more of these events throughout our 20th year celebrations. If you would like to be involved in any of our future cooking sessions or for more information about our Twenty for Twenty programme please email Head of Communications [email protected]
