Charity Workshop Aims to Help Young People Build Confidence

2 November 2020

Fresh Visions is a registered charity that supports children, young people and adults facing extreme disadvantage. The charity undertakes a number of vital projects aimed at helping people gain control of their lives by developing skills, confidence and motivation so they can build a brighter future.

Fresh Visions relies on support from grants and private funding. FFT client Optivo, a social landlord and provider of high quality, affordable homes, hosts the charity. Part of their mission to enhance lives by building new homes, and continuing to support its residents and communities, fits well with the ambitions of Fresh Visions.

Here at FFT, as part of our ongoing social value commitment to our clients, we are always looking at ways in which we can support important community initiatives, and help make a difference. Our open relationships with our clients allow us to recognise opportunities in which we can do this. Working closely with Optivo’s Social Impact team allowed Senior Partner Colin Farrell to identify a social group that could potentially have been overlooked, and an idea quickly formed.

The idea centred on helping young people to build their self-confidence. It would be aimed in particular at those transitioning from primary to secondary school, or young people who had been exposed to bullying.

Very soon, the Hastings Kickboxing Academy Workshop had been organised, a programme that would provide the opportunity for young people to learn vital self-defence skills and anti-bullying techniques, helping to enhance levels of self-assurance. FFT agreed to fund the 2.5 hour workshop, allowing 10 young people to take part for free.

The workshop took place on 29th October 2020, and we are hoping that this event will mark the beginning of a series of similar programmes in the future, including one for adults.
